Set Contains:

By including no supplemental features (not even the theatrical trailer), The Passion of the Christ maximizes its disc space to create one of the best-looking and best-sounding DVDs available. The picture and colors are sharp and vivid, and the soundtrack is powerful and envelops the viewer with surround effects. The original Aramaic, Latin, and Hebrew language track is available in DTS and Dolby 5.1, and there's also an audio-described track for the visually impaired (in which a narrator recounts the on-screen action in English). Subtitle options are English, English for the hearing impaired (which in addition to the dialogue describes sound effects such as "[yelling]"), and Spanish. --David Horiuchi

I have to say its a mixed bag.In the video department, I don't know if my eyes are fooling me, though it seems this 2017 release is a bit more detailed and the highlights are not overblown like the original 2009 Blu-ray release. I say this since I watch this film every year for Easter. Perhaps, Fox went back and did something who knows, but in my eyes its noticeable.Audio department: Firstly, the dubs are only available for the Theatrical Cut. I usually watch the Recut version since I can't tolerate the violence. It's truly disappointing they didn't dub it.Picked the scene were Jesus and Mary meet on the way to Golgotha to compare the English and Spanish dubbing since I'm bilingual. Also, there's a Portuguese dub, though since I don't speak it, can't give an opinion on it.The English dub was a missed opportunity. Its apparent the lack of sync with the moving lips especially Mary which I found truly distracting. Also, it was noticeable the actors were going through the motions since what was coming through body expression was not augment by the dialogue. What's worse was that some of the sound effects over powered the dialogue. Finally, some of the extras were muted which I found rather odd. In the end, they should had done another round or started from scratch or checked out the Spanish dub for reference. I'd give this dub a a 3 out of 5.The Spanish dub, I was more than shocked that this dubbing received some good TLC since they went above and beyond. I didn't notice the lack of sync. The actors who were brought in to dub the scenes, their voices matched the body language of the original actors with a certain emotion that I felt it. Also, they must of grabbed people in the street since I could hear extras screaming in Spanish just how the crowds were screaming in in its original Aramaic presentation. I have to say I give props to Fox's Latin America division for this dub. I'd give this dub a 4.5 out of 5.In the end, if you want the uptick in the video department or a Spanish speaker who wants this for their library, I'd say go get it.
